Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a common inflammatory condition of joints in old age. Its signs and symptoms along with management have been explained below.

Signs and symptoms

The patients of osteoarthritis presents with asymmetrical joint pain. The most commonly involved joint is knee joint. Hip joint and spines are also involved in these patients.

Investigations

A physician may advice x-ray of the involved joint. ESR, CRP, uric acid, and CBC may also be advised to rule out inflammatory joint conditions. Following investigations are recommended.

  • X-ray of the joint
  • ESR
  • CRP
  • CBC
  • Uric acid level

Management The management of OA includes education, lifestyle modification, non-pharmacological therapy, pharmacological therapy, intra-articular injections, neutraceuticals, and surgery.
