Diffuse Goitre
Diffuse goitre is soft and symmetrical enlargement of thyroid gland. It usually appears in 15 to 25 years age group. It can progress to multinodular goitre with or without thyrotoxicosis. It’s signs and symptoms, diagnosis and management have been illustrated below in detail.
Signs and symptoms
- Swelling in neck
- Tightness in neck region
- Difficulty in swallowing
- Horessness of voice
Diagnosis of Diffuse Goitre
- Ultrasound — diffuse enlargement of thyroid gland
- Thyroid profile — usually normal
- Scintography – hot or cold nodules
Treatment of Diffuse Goitre
No treatment is needed until compressional signs are appeared. In compressive goitre surgery is recommended.
